Assiniboine Cougars are proud to announce our 2019-20 Men's Soccer Award winners. The Men's soccer team, coached by Diego Rodriguez, completed their sixth season in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) League.

Thomas MVP

The Men's Soccer Most Valuable Player is awarded to midfield player Thomas Negiru. Thomas was also the Men's Futsal MVP, capping off a stellar season with the Cougars. Thomas, who is studying Business Administration, consistently displayed strong leadership skills and a positive attitude to claim this honour.

"I'm extremely proud of his performances both on and off the pitch this season. Thomas has been instrumental in lifting morale and encouraging the team," said Coach Rodriguez.

Andrew Coaches Choice

The Men's Soccer Coaches' Choice is awarded to midfield player Andrew Turner from Neepawa. Andrew was a key player executing team plays throughout the season. Andrew's dedication to the team and desire to always give 100% effort was an asset to the team each week.

"He is a very passionate player. His dedication for soccer is remarkable— showing up to every practice and game shows the love that he has for this sport", said Coach Rodriguez.

Most Improved Diego Nomesque

The Men's Soccer Most Improved is awarded to Diego Nomesque. Diego balanced his commitment to the team while studying Assiniboine's Interactive Media Arts program.

"Diego is a confident and enthusiastic soccer player. It was a pleasure to coach him this year as he is always willing to learn. It was very rewarding as a coach to see his development throughout the season and I am very proud to present this award to him," said Coach Rodriguez.

Assiniboine's annual Student Achievement Celebration recognizes the impressive achievements of students across both the academic and athletic calendars. This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Achievement Celebration event will not take place in the traditional format.
