Overview

Assiniboine offers daytime, evening, and weekend options for Canadian newcomers to improve their English skills. We specialize in English Language training for students with Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 5-8. Our school provides a friendly and relaxing environment for you to come to learn and meet new people from across the globe. Funding for our ESL programming is provided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Admissions

To take ESL classes at Assiniboine, we require students to have:

  • A minimum CLB level of 4C or higher in listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Permanent resident status
  • Must be a Manitoba resident

Please note: Individuals registering for these free, IRCC-funded classes must reside in Westman, as indicated in the map below. Students residing outside of Westman are eligible to attend any Provincial Online courses. Please contact us for more information.

Assiniboine has a number of agreements with other colleges, universities and professional organizations, making it possible for students to apply credit taken at Assiniboine to programs at other institutions. For up-to-date information on agreements, visit the Articulation Agreements page.

 

Tools & Supplies

The program allows input into the topics covered in your classes; your needs are our priority. The instructors complete a needs assessment with students throughout the program so that relevant information is covered for each group.

Any textbooks and materials you need will be provided to you within the first week of class. However, you will be responsible for providing your own binders, pens, paper, and other materials that will assist you in the classroom.


At-Home Computing

For this program, you are expected to have access to a computer at home. It should have a webcam, microphone and internet access to enable remote learning for the theory portions of your programs.
